Kickboxing Fitness

In this 45 minute class we focus on having fun and building great technique while enjoying a great workout.

We use lots of different equipment like bags, kick shields, focus mitts, Thai pads and an ever growing collection of functional fitness equipment to make sure you have a great workout that stimulates your mind and body.

We train solo, with partners, and even throw in the odd circuit workout to add some variety. Everyone is encouraged to work out at their own pace while we help them improve their fitness and technique with kindly instruction and support.

We view fitness different to most. We focus on health and well-being rather than simply 'working out'.

  • Yes, you will sweat.

  • Yes, you will gain some muscle.

  • Yes, you will still burn lots of calories.

  • Yes, it will help you lose/maintain weight.

But we also make sure your mental and emotional health gets a great workout.

We also focus on:

  • Breathing.

  • Thought process.

  • Confidence building.

  • Movement over muscle.

  • Mobility before Flexibility.

  • Posture - sitting, standing and moving.

and much, much more to  help you in your day to day life.

Don't worry, we don't bombard you with all this information at once, we just weave it into the classes so everything flows.

Because, if the session isn't fun then we're not doing our job!

BARE BONES COMBATIVES

Apart from being a cool logo : ) it’s all about the basics. Now most people look at the basics in this context as a small number of physical tools, which is fine. But for us it is about building from the inside out and from the ground up. We want to re-look at how our thought process works and how it controls our body.

BareBones Combatives has got little to do with being a one size fits all system, it’s all about you as an individual. We adhere to principles and concepts and then help you find your own way in making them yours.

None of us look the same, move the same, talk the same, think the same and have a multitude of other differences so why on earth would we want to do the exact same thing? Being normal is highly overrated, and somewhat limiting. Don’t just go with the flow and be a follower, get out there and rediscover yourself and how brilliant you actually are.

Combatives for us is about a “do it” attitude that you put into your life and not something that you keep there in-case you get into a physical altercation. That said, everything we do is about Self Protection, from the mental to the physical and beyond.

TEENS SELF DEFENCE

This class is about Self Protection. As with all classes we run they are informative and fun as well as being physical and thought provoking.

They will learn the basics of self protection from how to spot danger to how to increase their awareness, from de-escalation techniques to situational management, as well as the physical, emotional, and mental tools needed to make the right decisions.

They will learn martial arts techniques so they know how to operate their body under duress as well as increasing their physical, mental and emotional fitness.

The teen years can have a huge effect on the rest of their lives so we do what we can to help improve their outlook of themselves and of others. What we teach is beyond punching and kicking and the lessons learned will hopefully serve them well into adulthood.

NASUBUKANG ARNIS

The focus in this class is learning how to fight with a single stick. We do obviously play with other weapons, as well as double sticks, but it is not our main focus.

Nasubukang itself means 'tested' in Tagalog and this is exactly what we do with everything we learn.

We use the foundations of:

  • Form

  • Focus

  • Function

To help us to quickly become proficient in single stick fighting.

The art was founded by Doug Tucker and is the best stick fighting system I have come across in my last 35 years of training in the Filipino arts.

We use a small curriculum to ensure that students get good with a single stick as quickly as possible. That said, it is a system that is constantly refining itself through practice, drilling, thought and sparring (playing) so like anything good in life it is always seeking perfection.
